Attracting prospective STEM teachers using realistic job previews: a mixed methods study

The purpose of this article is to report the development and implementation a STEM teacher attraction intervention based on person-environment (and person-vocation) fit theory. Study 1 reports administration an 'realistic job preview' (RJP) requiring participant responses, followed by experienced feedback tailored message 111 university students in STEM-related fields. Results showed significant relationship between RJP performance interest teaching career, even after controlling for prior career intentions. 2 results from individual interviews with 14 studying subjects factors contributing career-decision making, especially regarding as career. 16 codes were distilled into three themes: role personal reflection, critical influences decisions, patterns change. We conclude suggestions RJPs supplement current recruitment approaches.
